In reply to your letter 15130/1916 of the 7th
instant, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to
atate for the information of Mr.Secretary Bonar Law
that leasra, B. Rigold and Bergmann of London have
given satisfactory assurances to this Department
that they have had no business dealings with Mesara
Melcher's & Co, of Canton, other than correspondence
relating to goods shipped before July 26th 1915,
since the Trading with the Enemy (China eto.] Pro-
olamation Aot 1915 came into force.
A member of the firm is now in China making
arrangements for the continuation of their business
through the agency of British firms.
